I finally made it to Qatar, and so did my luggage! It was a long trip. From when I left my house to when I touched down was 32 hours. Then, it was another 4-5 hours before I got through the briefings/customs, and into “Qtown,” the area of the base where everyone who arrives is quarantined.
Before I can mix with the general population, I have been sequestered in quarantine. “Qtown,” a essentially a series of trailers that houses us miscreants who want to enter the country. The quarantine will last for 14 days. What do I do in the meantime?
Well, aside from some online training (the government loves online training) there isn’t much to do here except eat and sleep. Fortunately, I brought some books with me to help pass the time. I will also try to use the time to adjust my body clock to Qatar time. Well, first I’ll probably sleep a couple of days.
I was very lucky to meet up with my new friend and roommate. He has been here for a while and was returning from leave, so he was able to have a few things brought in, including a small coffee pot. That itself is a lifesaver. Yesterday, the coffee was weak and bad. Today, well, it wasn’t weak (hehe).
Aside from that, though, things are going fairly smooth so far. Everything fell into place nicely and I made it here safely. I just need to finish my two week quarantine period. Hopefully, I’ll transition my body clock during this time, and then I’ll be able to hit the ground running when I am done with quarantine.
