Life in the Real World

There are museums, water activities, TONS of shopping, loads of restaurants. Quite a few activities to keep you busy on the weekends.

Quite a bit has happened in the past week. Getting out of Qtown was a sweet relief. The first day out was mainly paperwork and then a half day. Our work week is Sunday through Thursday, so that half day lead into a weekend. I got settled in to my new place and explored the area. Here are a few pictures. Some of them were taken while I was a passenger in car so I apologize for the blur and weird angles.

The place I’m living is a two bedroom apartment. Each bedroom is a master suite, with its own bathroom. There is a common kitchen and living area, as well as a porch/balcony just out back. I’m still getting settled in, even after a week, but it’s a pretty nice place. And yes, that is a Doctor Who pillow case on one of the pillows on the bed.

This is a short video taken from my phone on the way home.

The job itself is pretty good. I survived my first week :). It was a pretty standard first week on the job. Paperwork, access, introduction to the software/systems, being thrown into a new projects…all standard stuff. I was able to adjust my body clock during quarantine, so I’m not sleepy on the job, and even though the DFAC is still out of coffee, I have a kettle and some Nescafe instant.

There is quite a bit to do around here. COVID restrictions have limited things a little, but the best mall in Doha is only 2 miles away. Uber rides are real cheap. There are museums, water activities, TONS of shopping, loads of restaurants. Quite a few activities to keep you busy on the weekends.

I’m still getting settled in, but I’m mostly there. My goal is to finish getting settled this weekend and to explore the area some more. Next weekend I will try venturing further afield.
